The International Office Held an Alumni Sharing Session on Studying in Canada

    On October 15th, the International Office held an alumni sharing session on studying in Canada in Room Z308 of the Comprehensive Building. Zhang Jiayang, a graduate of the major of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages in the School of Humanities in 2013, served as the keynote speaker.

    Alumna Zhang Jiayang went to study at the University of Windsor in Canada upon graduation and obtained a master's degree in Education. Currently, she is working as a student guidance counselor in the Admissions Office of York University in Canada. At the sharing session, she started with an English self-introduction and got to know the grade levels and major backgrounds of the participating students through interaction.

    Subsequently, Zhang Jiayang introduced in detail the categories of Canadian higher education and university rankings, emphasizing the outstanding advantages of Canada in terms of teaching quality. She also explained Canada's immigration policies and the cost of studying abroad, and provided practical tips on avoiding pitfalls for the students in combination with the current situation of domestic study abroad applications.

    Regarding the preparations for study abroad applications, Zhang Jiayang also shared the IELTS score requirements for master's and undergraduate programs in Canada, and gave suggestions on language learning and study abroad planning based on her own experiences. She particularly emphasized the importance of GPA in the undergraduate stage and recommended some websites for understanding the admission information of institutions. Meanwhile, taking "growth mindset" as an example, she encouraged the students to get mentally prepared and actively face the challenges of studying abroad.

    Finally,Zhang Jiayang expressed her gratitude to the teachers of Gengdan Institue, encouraged the students to bravely pursue their dreams, and patiently answered the individual questions raised by the students.

    Director Wang Xiaoyu of the International Office also presented a sharing certificate and a BGD bear to Zhang Jiayang as a token of appreciation. This sharing session enabled the students to have a basic understanding of studying and living in Canada, immigration, work, and how to avoid pitfalls in study abroad applications, thus inspiring their awareness of planning for future growth and development.
